For the past 10 years or so, professional Japanese
Sumo wrestling has seen a steady decline in popularity as it has suffered from
fixed matches,
links to organized crime,
bar room brawls in Roppongi, a
marijuana scandal and
illegal gambling on baseball etc. The failure to produce a Japanese superstar wrestler has also driven away many long-term fans as well.
So how can Japanese Sumo survive? Well, Taiwan's
Next Media Animation TV has some funny ideas:
