David Bowie as a Japanese Salaryman
Talking of coffee tables, here are some glimpses of a glossy new book by Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita. Speed of Life (a snip at £360) shows Sylvian’s direct forebear and antecedent David Bowie posing in Kyoto during a holiday there in 1979 — the time he was hanging out with Sinologist David Kidd.
Bowie, after hinting that Japan was to be his new home, left for New York, explaining that Japan would make him “too Zen”, which would cause him to stop writing.
But perhaps the oddest and most interesting of Sukita’s images, revealed for the first time in the new book, are the studio shots where he portrays Bowie as a salaryman on his way to work, attempting to beat the clock
David Bowie and Masayoshi Sukita are now working together on this new photo book entitled "Speed of Life". This book can be pre-ordered here.

L'Arc~en~Ciel Launches New World Tour
Yes it's true and the legendary Japanese rock band L'Arc~en~Ciel has just launched a new world tour! On November 29th they kicked off the tour with a sold-out 20th anniversary concert at Ajinomoto Stadium. That show was broadcast via tape-delay at Empire 25 in New York City. According to RPGHERO:
It was basically like I won the experience of sneaking into a city movie theatre... But the concert film was pretty cool. It wasn't truly live, it was more like it was filmed on the 29th in Japan and shown in the USA on the 29th. So it's almost like it was live right? It took place at technically the same time and day.
Here is a video of the concert footage of L'Arc-en-Ciel performing Ready Steady Go from the other night:
And here is the band performing their smash hit Driver's High live at the Yoyogi Daiichi Taiikukan during the last night of their week-long "Shibuya Seven Days 2003" concerts:
To find out more info on their new world tour, please visit the official website of L'Arc~en~Ciel.

1965 David Bowie Home Video
Original source: Mrs Tsk *
”The scene, brief and looped, has the elusive appeal of a new Yeti or Bigfoot reel. Joe Salama, who posted the fragment, says: “This exceptional cine footage was taken by my late father on a trip up to the West End of London totally unaware that David Bowie was the young dude that smiles graciously at the camera.”
"Well, I thought I could do better than that, and before long I’d googled enough to publish with some confidence the true facts of this remarkable document. Somebody in the comments points out that it’s more likely to be 1966 or 1965. I’m able to confirm that this is spring 1965."
"I also found this Lower Third handbill, drawn by Bowie himself in 1965, showing him with the same hairstyle and the same high rounded shirt collar you see in the film."
