Virgin Mice Science Research In Japan

Via TomoNews.net

In a new study from Japan, results have shown that virgin mice preferred watching mice fight videos and receiving morphine injections rather than watching mice erotica and mice sniffing videos. The research was done by Japanese scientists Shigeru Watanabe from Keio University, Kazutaka Shinozuka with the RIKEN Brain Science Institute and Takefumi Kikusui from Azabu University and was published in the scientific journal "Animal Cognition."

Virgin mice prefer watching fight videos to sex... by tomonewsus

Although Japan does not have a big drug problem, this study may partly explain why violent anime is so popular in Japan and all over the world. It may also partially reveal why many young Japanese men and women are not interested in sex these days.

About this study, Barbara Kenig at the University of Zurich in Switzerland told New Scientist: "There is a debate over whether time spent with a specific cue is a good proxy for preference. Mice might just need longer to gain information on whether the objects signal any kind of danger."

Live In Nagoya: "Crunch"

Here is an up and coming Japanese new wave pop group known as Crunch (Noriyo Hotta, vocals/guitar; Reina Kawagoe backing vocals/bass; Yoshiko Jinno drums) performing their short, airy and melancholy song entitled "Blue" live at K.D Japon:

Lyrics

I have been searching something in all my life, with hollow in my mind. I would be swallowed by the deepest blue as soon as looking into it

I always pretend to be not interested in, even if I expected to. apart from touch by anyone.

Are you kidding? Actually you are so wired.

It is so free as lonesome, beacuse I can decide anything. I have nostalgia for inconvenience caused by being with someone together.

In the city of night where many lights are together I used to be tearing at somewhere, it blinked, It's translucent days.

I was stranger there, Nothing left but to go home and sleep. It is same about a future I hope or a future you won't hope.

It is so free as lonesome, beacuse I can decide anything. I have nostalgia for inconvenience caused by being with someone together.

It is so free as lonesome, this feeling with transparency. I was waiting in sun shower, but that guys were in sunlight.

"Fukuppy" Fukushima's New Corporate Character

In an effort to alleviate the fear of Fukushima's ongoing nuclear disaster and food safety, the Fukushima Industries Corporation (a refrigerator/freezer manufacturer) has recently unveiled an all-new corporate character named "Fukuppy":

Fukuppy Fukushima's New Corporate Character

On the introduction page for this character it begins with this question and answer:

Q. Where were you born Fukuppy?

A. I was born in a Fukushima refrigerator.

The character also states that it is not yet a male or female because it is still an egg (with wings). It goes on to explain that it enjoys eating alot of food and is always on patrol and checking out the quality of meat, fish and vegetables in all new refrigerators. Also, to be fair, most likely, the Japanese pronunciation of this new oddity is "FOO-KU-PEA" or 「ふくっぴ」. And perhaps the logic behind this is that by putting a raw egg in one's refrigerator, somehow it will then indicate if any food has become irradiated. Mmmkkaaaayy...

Vice Japan's "Korean Poo" Show Upsets Koreans

Via 3Yen News Japan September 8, 2013

Vice Japan's Korean Poo Upsets Koreans

In a recent Vice Japan episode, investigative reporter Yuka Uchida traveled to Seoul to visit Dr. Lee Chang Soo a traditional Korean medicine doctor in order to try human feces wine or "Ttongsul" (똥술) which has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. According to Uchida, Dr. Soo is one of the last Korean physicians who prescribes and makes Korean Poo wine for his patients.

This episode also includes a visit to the Toilet Culture Park in Suwon. This unusual public garden/museum includes many amusing statues and ancient toilets from centuries ago. It is explained how servants would use these hand-held scoops to collect the King's feces. Once done, the first servant would test the odor and the second servant would also smell it and even eat some of the King's shit in order to get a more accurate health level! This was done despite not knowing exactly what healthy excrement was supposed to taste like. (?) O_O

Next up is Mr. Toilet House. Included here is a collection of mini statues of human beings squatted down in the process of practicing the ancient Korean tradition of outdoor defecation. Three of the statues are reported to be of the Buddha, Eve, and Jesus himself!

So to summarize, we have an "investigative reporter" who said "it was hard to find reliable information online". Also, with no fact checking at all, she claimed that Dr. Soo is "one of the last Korean physicians who prescribes and makes Korean Poo wine for his patients." And, according to the Toilet Culture Park manager, long ago, servants would sniff and taste samples of Korean Kings' excrement even though it was not known what healthy feces should taste like.

Riiiiiiiiiigghhtt!

(Does anyone want to buy a river-front condo inside the DMZ?)

NOPE!

Yuka then gets a call from the good Doctor saying that his bowel movement brew was now ready. Can Yuka drink it? Let's see how that goes:

Well, the broadcast of this episode on Chosun TV stirred up quite a shit storm of negative reactions and anger from some Korean viewers according to Kotaku. Is anyone surprised by that?

Their setlist included their eighth studio album "Computer World" which was first released in May 1981. Many believe this to be Kraftwerk's peak period. Kraftwerk is one of the first groups to popularize electronic music and are considered pioneers in the field. Below is a video from last night's performance of their 1974 worldwide hit "Autobahn":

Cute Japanese Girl Screaming Racism & Hatred

Cute Japanese Girl Screaming Racism & Hatred

Is Japan a racist country?

Is this typical behavior among Japanese girls nowadays?

What is the difference between this video and Medama Sensei's "Racism in Japan" videos?

This very unusual and shocking video was filmed just the other day in front of Tsuruhashi 鶴橋 station in Osaka, Japan. In this we see a young and cute (?) Japanese girl destroying all the myths about her by shouting explicit racism and hatred against Korean people living in that area. She actually yells "We will start the Tsuruhashi Massacre like the Nanking Massacre!" Believe it or not, this kind of protest is legal and not uncommon in Japan, but seeing this done by a young middle school girl is quite rare, indeed. It makes us wonder if her parents are aware of this or not. OK, one last question:

Could this legally happen in the USA? Discuss.

Forever Alone in The Nuke Zone of Fukushima 2013

Recently produced by Vice Media Japan, here is a very chilling short documentary on two Fukushima farmers who, in the face of high levels of radioactivity, are still bravely working their desolate farms and feeding their animals. One farmer, Naoto Matsumura, is still living within the 20 kilometer evacuation zone in Tomioka. Another farmer, Kenji Hasegawa, had to evacuate his town of Iitate and now lives in temporary housing. Together they tell some very somber tales of the nuclear accident, TEPCO's lies, their separated families and Japanese government failures two years after the disasters of March 11, 2011.

Update on "Racism in Japan" Video by Medama Sensei

Update on Racism in Japan Video by Medama Sensei

Today Medama Sensei aka. "Miki Dezaki" released a follow up video to his controversial "Racism in Japan" clip of his classroom lesson about Japanese discrimination. After that class, his students were enlightened, there were no complaints from anyone and the vice principal of his school even said that he wished more students could have attended Dezaki's lesson.
“The reaction was so positive,” he said. "These kids have heard the stories of their parents being discriminated against by the mainland Japanese. They know this stuff. But the funny thing is that they weren’t making the connection that that was discrimination.”
But when he uploaded that lesson as a video to Youtube last week, it turned more than a few heads and generated a very negative backlash from some right-wing, racist Japanese netizens known as the "netouyu" or "nettouyoku" (ネット右翼) who even sent him death threats:
“I recently made a video about Racism in Japan, and am currently getting bombarded with some pretty harsh, irrational comments from Japanese people who think I am purposefully attacking Japan,” [snip]

"If I should have anticipated something, I should have anticipated the netouyu,” said Dezaki.

Here is Dezaki's original "Racism in Japan" video:

And here is today's release "Racism in Japan Part 2":

The netouyu created quite a stir by hacking into Dezaki's social networks and then by contacting his previous employers, local politicians and Okinawa’s board of education and complained about Dezaki's video through numerous telephone calls. This reaction also earned him a write up featured in the Washington Post. Dezaki is an American English teacher in Okinawa who previously gained some notoriety with his other videos entitled “What Americans think of Japan”, "Sh*t Japanese Girls Say", "Hitchhiking Okinawa" and "Being Gay in Japan".

Be sure to see more of Mike Dezaki's interesting videos here.

Fukushima Housewife's Story of Nuclear Meltdown

Fukushima Housewife's Story of Nuclear Meltdown

Via Energy News January 23rd 2013

In a chilling testimony, the wife of a Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant worker, Takumi Takano, tells us about the meltdown, the hardships her family had to go through and the many Japanese government failures that followed. Knowing beforehand about the impending disaster, her husband evacuated their family from their Tomioka home just nine kilometers from the power plants on March 11, 2011. They all escaped to southerly Saitama Prefecture and then later on moved back to Koriyama, Fukushima.
"The day of the quake he told us right away that we should evacuate. My 80 y/o father lived close by. So we escaped together to the south. My husband said the wind was blowing north. He knew even before the government announced. When we were on the run he said the plant would melt down."
In this exclusive and very personal account of the Fukushima collapse, Takano blames the Japanese government for "lying to us from the get-go." Spoken in Japanese with English subtitles:

Ichiro Suzuki Begins Spring Training

Ichiro Suzuki Begins Spring Training

Via The Washington Post January 15, 2013

Not wasting any time, Ichiro Suzuki has started this new year off with early spring training in Kobe, Japan. Last year he was traded to the New York Yankees and batted .322 with five homers, 27 RBIs and 14 steals. Prior to being traded he was batting .261 with the Seattle Mariners. This jump in performance helped earn him a new $13 million, two-year contract with the Yankees.
“Signing with the Yankees has given me a new sense of determination,” the 39-year-old outfielder said Tuesday after a workout in Kobe. “This is a unique team, a team that can have a player like Alex Rodriguez as a pinch hitter is special and to be part of that is exciting.”
This season could be another All-Star performance for the 10-time Golden Glove outfielder.
