Batman vs Chinese Security Guards

Via Mediaite by James Crugnale December 15th, 2011

Hollywood's real Batman, Christian Bale, and a CNN camera crew were recently roughed up by some unidentified Chinese security guards who would not let Bale visit the blind human rights activist Chen Guangcheng who has been under house arrest for the past 15 months. Here is the CNN news video of this confrontation:

Bale was in China to promote the opening of his latest film The Flowers of War. A film based on the true story of the Japanese Nanjing Massacre in 1937. This movie just opened yesterday in China and will open in the US later this month. Here is a trailer for that film:

WTF Japan Accepts Worldwide Refugees!

Midor Anzen ミドリ安全株式会社Mmmmmm......not really. But for at least one foreigner obsessed with smoking and going to Japan, all of his dreams come true in this very funny and ironic WTF TV short:

Actually, this is a somewhat dated ad for Midor Anzen ミドリ安全株式会社 and its useless "smoking section machines" that are seen in just about every office all over the nation. Below is a wacky google translation Engrish generation of one of this company's Q&A's:

I want to maintain yourself?

Japan Horse Racing Dating Game

In an effort to get more Japanese herbivores interested in girls and gambling, the Japan Racing Association (JRA) just released it's free online horse racing dating game called My Sweet Umadonna - Me and You and our horse or My sweet ウマドンナ ~僕は君のウマ~. The title is a word play where UMA = "horse" and "Madonna"= "Madonna" or "The Virgin Mary" or "Dream Girl" or whatever. Anyway, it appears as though the objective of this game is to start a relationship with an anime character or fake girlfriend and then go to the horse races together.

Here is JRA's promo video for this new game:

David Bowie as a Japanese Salaryman

Our venerable Japanese News correspondent just sent in this stunning new scoop of David Bowie as a Japanese Salaryman:

Talking of coffee tables, here are some glimpses of a glossy new book by Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita. Speed of Life (a snip at £360) shows Sylvian’s direct forebear and antecedent David Bowie posing in Kyoto during a holiday there in 1979 — the time he was hanging out with Sinologist David Kidd.

Bowie, after hinting that Japan was to be his new home, left for New York, explaining that Japan would make him “too Zen”, which would cause him to stop writing.

But perhaps the oddest and most interesting of Sukita’s images, revealed for the first time in the new book, are the studio shots where he portrays Bowie as a salaryman on his way to work, attempting to beat the clock
